  1. SARAL/AltiKa to enhance understanding of Earth’s climate

    The French-Indian SARAL/AltiKa altimetry mission is scheduled to launch 25 February from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in southern India. Its goal is to enable closer monitoring of sea-surface height from space.

  2. Sea elephant oceanographers: a 10-year success story

    For the last 10 years, more than 200 elephant seals have been patrolling the southern seas wearing some strange headgear: an Argos transmitter instrumented with temperature, salinity and pressure sensors. The data these sensors acquire are fed in near-real time into the Mercator operational oceanography model and also tell us more about the animals' ecology.

  3. Jason-2 delivers its first global maps

    The first global ocean maps delivered by Jason-2 compare very closely to those obtained by its predecessor Jason-1. A real bonus for the teams calibrating the satellite’s instruments.
